| Sally Bower studied Advanced and Experimental Lettering at the City & Guilds of London Art School from 1976 to 1979 and from 1981 she was assistant to Richard Kindersley for a year. She has been freelance since 1979, designing and executing lettering in a variety of media, specialising in drawn and painted lettering, three-dimensional forms, gilding, calligraphy and design for print, working mainly to commission. Recent commissions, undertaken in collaboration with Mark Frith, have been The Language Pillar in the Tibetan Peace Garden by the Imperial War Museum, with the Dalai Lama's message of peace in English, Tibetan, Hindi and Chinese; and the Map of the World sundial, at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire. She was one of the founders of Letter Exchange, and Chairman from 2000-2003.
