| Following a formal training in woodcarving in Germany, Stan Greer was introduced to lettercutting by Michael Harvey, and encouraged in his work by David Kindersley. The possibility of printing directly from the cut block began with a course at the Whittington Press, and this has remained the focus of his work, initially in formal style, and more recently knife-cut letters in a freer, bolder manner. He now combines lettercutting and relief printmaking to create limited edition prints which explore the allusions, metaphors and ambiguities of language in visual terms.
