LX Lecture – Mick Paine
13 April 2011
Finding Space
Mick Paine studied History of Art at Glasgow University. Studying and handling medieval manuscripts in the University library inspired a love of calligraphy and since leaving Glasgow he has studied with many top calligraphers and lettering artists. He completed the SSI’s Advanced Training Scheme in 2004 and has since gone on to receive support from both the Arts Council and the Crafts Council for his work as a lettering artist.
“The business of being an artist is really all about trying to find space. A space to make your work and a context in which to think about your practice: a space to present your work and a space to place yourself professionally.” Nisha Duggal
In this lecture Mick will seek to share some of the twists and turns of his own attempts to ‘find space’ within the world of contemporary calligraphy and lettering.
