In 1988, a small group of lettering professionals formed an association dedicated to preserving, promoting and developing expertise in the lettering arts.

Today, Letter Exchange is a 200–strong organisation of members offering:

• Calligraphy

• Letter cutting

• Design for print and web

• Typography

• Font creation

• Book design

• Signage

• Architectural lettering

• Lettering in other media, such as for film and TV.

 

Our activities

We set out to inspire and inform practitioners and clients alike through our diverse programme of lectures, exhibitions, and publications. We help organisations implement large, complex or demanding lettering projects and help newcomers to the lettering arts with our active participation in education and training. We promote debate within the lettering community, both to retain traditional skills and to support innovation and artistic expression. Many of our members have strong links with industry and commerce which helps us to ensure the skills we represent remain relevant and appropriate now and in the future.
